Upping Your Digital IQ – Season Wrap-Up

2012-2013 program series “Upping Your Digital IQ” proves to be a solid hit, with social, video, mobile and audio elements being addressed by industry leaders in each discipline.  The program theme “here a voice, have a voice” ensured the audience received terrific insights while having their questions addressed.

The final installment of Upping your Digital IQ explored how Radio, the heritage broadcast medium, has become incredibly innovative in linking terrestrial and digital content in the audio space and how those innovations have created solutions and more importantly sales for brands like Sears & AutoZone.

The audio session was moderated by Eric Ronning from  AdLarge Media. Eric was instrumental in recruiting panelist from a cross-section of digital audio leaders.  The panel included: Carolyn Creekmore  of The Media Strategist, Inc.; Cathie Mongarella  of Premiere Radio Networks (National arm of CC/iHeart Radio);   Melissa Colon of Havas Media; Megan Green of Songza and Priscilla Valls of Pandora.

Since the launch of the series, each expert panel was able to add dimension to the user experience, enlighten AWM members to the latest trends and provide a road map for what success looks like.   The changing landscaped seemed formidable in the Spring of 2012 when Pinterest and Tumblr experienced overnight success.  However, the acceleration of change continues to exasperate marketers as consumers migrate to smart phones at a rapid pace.

The March 12th Mobile Panel addressed the full spectrum of creative, distribution and measurement when implementing a mobile campaign.  As with social and video, the mobile panel emphasized the consumer leading the trends and brands that meet consumers’ needs and expectations are the clear winners in the digital age.

The AWMNYC program committee led by Anne O’Brien and Stacey Deziel determined early on that “Upping Your Digital IQ” is not a one-and-done topic.  The committee, including Elisabeth Paredes and Nancy Kahn developed the series to address the multiple aspects of digital and explore its impact on traditional media.    Identifying what success looks like, how brands build digital programs and ultimately measuring ROI are the foundations of each program.

The program committee added new members in 2013, Jennifer Churchill and Helen Jonsen building the AWMNYC access to a wider range of media companies and women in media.  Recently Jill Goldmann and Jean Ferrari teamed to coordinate the next installment of Upping Your Digital IQ, with a focus on Digital Audio.

Sponsors including comScore, Kargo and AOL have provided category expertise as well as logistical support to ensure the success of the Alliance for Women in Media’s New York Affiliate programming.
